Gorgeous antique amethyst alert!
The riviere is about 16 inches long from end to end - it is amethyst set in silver. Bezels are smooth. I had purchased this necklace from a woman who was just about 60 years old (59 1/2 :)) The riviere belonged to her great aunt (her great grandmother's sister) and she said the piece is OLD. My guess is the piece is 1st half of the 20th century - around the 1930's but possibly as early as the 1890's. It has the mark 830 for silver (Scandinavian Silver). Scandinavian silver has a minimal fineness of 830. The Scandinavian silver alloy contains 83% pure silver and 17% copper or other metals (according to Wikipedia). There is a maker's mark above the 830 silver mark that I can not make out - maybe it says VAV? The stones are natural amethyst and have been tested on my presidium tester.  The silver has darkened with wonderful patina.  I have not cleaned the necklace and will leave that up to the new owner.  :)
Amethysts are clear and bright and a beautiful shade of violet. There is some color zoning in the stones which prove they are natural stones :) The color zoning can not be seen when the necklace is being worn - only when your turn the necklace backwards and look through the backside of the stones can color zoning be seen.  Antique box is for photographs only and is not included in the listing.
