Notable Features:
This necklace was handmade in the Georgian era in Spain. The necklace is composed of a silk string filled with 18k yellow gold-designed beads. High carat gold necklaces like this were very popular during the Georgian era; pieces from this era were heavily influenced by world exploration. This necklace would have been handmade and is a very rare historical find.
The necklace would have been designed for a Spanish wedding giving it an elegant and important purpose for the wearer. There are all different size and shapes of the 18k yellow gold beads adorning this necklace, each of which were hand strung onto a secure silk string. The necklace features four size beads that graduate in an aesthetic pattern. One is a floral-shaped design with filigree detailing; the next bead is a beautiful circler bead with a flower design, continued by a long geometric style bead. Then, to finish off the pattern is a beautifully large bead with elegant swirls made using puffy technique. The hue of the yellow gold on this necklace is beautiful and vibrant.
The necklace also features a pendant with a floral shape design; the pendant has beautiful filigree detailing and puffy technique beading. In the center of the pendant is an oval hole that has been filled with glass. The center of the pendant can come out and allow for something small to be put inside. The pendant is then attached to a triangular-like motif with a puffy circler bead in the middle. The use of so many different techniques makes its piece so unique.
The necklace does not have any opening or clasp as length allows it to be placed over the head for easy wear. When worn, the necklace rests just below the breast of most people. The necklace is a classic example of a Georgian Spanish wedding necklace. It would make a valuable addition to any antique jewelry collection. Don't miss your chance to preserve this piece of cultural history.
Damage:
Age appropriate wear.
Some of the silk string is coming though the beads but all the beads are still secure. The necklace is in very good condition for its age.

The History
The Georgian era is known for its hand-crafted designs, which were heavily influenced by world exploration. A few signatures of this era were high karat gold, cameos, chatelaine accessories, foil-backed stones, rivière necklaces, memento mori and mourning jewelry, and rose and mine cut diamonds. While the jewelry from this era began to see designs from all over the world, jewelry from abroad was still very expensive to acquire due to sea travel. Between age and difficulty of acquirement, pieces from the Georgian era are amazing and rare historical finds.
Filigree metalworking is a delicate form of art and has been found as early as 3,000 BC in Mesopotamia. It was perfected by the Phoenicians and Etruscan civilizations between the 6th and 3rd centuries BC. It involves stamping out a design in metal and hand bending and twirling threads, combined with tiny beads, until a final motif emerges. It is reminiscent of lace and considered one of the most difficult metalworking processes. Filigree is still a very popular technique in India and Asia.
Puffy jewelry is a name given to hollow repousse pieces, typically little heart charms. Puffy hearts came into fashion in the late 1800s and were popular until the 1950s. Today, puffy jewelry is highly sought after, but very rare to find because they were difficult to make in the first place and were easily damaged due to their hollow cores.
