    Notable Features:
This pendant was handmade during the Art Nouveau era in Italy. Composed of 18k rose gold, the pendant features a beautiful lantern-like design adorned with tourmaline stones. The motif of
this piece is an excellent example of the styles of jewelry popular during this time period, which saw jewelers turning away from the more elaborate and ornate jewelry designs of the preceding Victorian era and toward simpler, sophisticated jewelry inspired by the wonder and beauty of nature. The elegant style and curving, rounded lines of this piece perfect captures the spirit of these designs.
Adorning the face of the pendant is a total of four tourmaline, two with deep green hues and two with bright red hues. All of these stones rest within rose gold multi-prong settings, the warm hues of the rose gold contrasting beautifully with the vivid red and green hues of the tourmaline. The tourmaline are also semi-translucent, allowing light to filter through their bodies, illuminating their striking hues. The charm pendant itself showcases a lantern-like motif, with four sides upon which the stones rest. Curving half-circular designs flow above each stone. The flowing lines and eye-tourmaline stones on this pendant would have been popular during the Nouveau period.
Completing the pendant is a jump ring bale so the piece can be paired with a variety of chains and necklaces, or worn on a bracelet as a charm due to its smaller size. A classic example of the jewelry styles popular during the Art Nouveau era, this pendant would make a valuable addition to any antique jewelry collection. Don't miss your chance to preserve this piece of cultural history.
    Damage:
Age appropriate wear. There is very minor wear to the faces of the green tourmaline stones, which would not be immediately noticeable when worn and does not affect wear.

    The History
The Art Nouveau era, 1890-1910, was also called "La Belle Epoque" in French, which translates to "A Beautiful Time.”  This was very true due to the gorgeous designs that came out of this period.  This era focused on women, and the beauty of nature and the pieces were often large. Enamel was a standard material used in Art Nouveau jewelry as the period was more about the importance of the design over the materials used to create it. The Art Nouveau period happened before the start of the first World War, when mass manufacturing took over the production of many products, including some jewelry.
Tourmaline is a semi-precious gemstone that comes in a wide array of colors and has been fundamental in jewelry for centuries. The Empress Dowager Cixi, the last Empress of China, loved pink tourmaline and bought large quantities of the stone from the Himalaya Mine, located in California, which, along with Maine, was one of the world’s largest tourmaline mines in the world.
