This necklace was handmade in the Retro period of the Art Deco era. The necklace consists of beautiful Bohemian garnet pendant and a 14k yellow gold curb link necklace.
The necklace is an excellent example of the Hollywood Regency style, which rose to popularity during the Retro period. Eager to show off their wealth and style, Hollywood celebrities and socialites during this time would adorn themselves with glamorous jewelry, usually featuring large and beautiful stones. This necklace was made in the style of Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, and Tiffany designs that influenced the Hollywood Regency style, making the viewer think of the likes of Ava Gardner and Katharine Hepburn.
The pendant features a gorgeous Bohemian garnet which displays the deep red hue so prized in this variety of garnet. A semi-translucent quality allows light to filter through the body of the stone and illuminate its color while reflecting off its briolette cut facets with eye-catching sparkle and shimmer. The stone rests securely in a yellow gold prong basket setting with a standard split bale.
The pendant is strung on a 14k yellow gold curb link chain completed with a spring-ring clasp. When worn, the necklace sits below the collarbone. The History

The Hollywood Regency style came into fashion during the 1930s, ushered along by the Golden Age of Hollywood. This style was heralded by bright, contrasting colors and modernization of the opulence of Baroque styles, featuring a deliberately frivolous extravagance that screamed glitz and glamour. “Big girls need big diamonds” was taken to heart, and the gorgeous Hollywood stars decked themselves appropriately, with blindingly glittering jewels to showcase their lives of luxury.
Bohemian garnet is a transparent or translucent mineral of a dark red hue. Bohemian garnets were mined starting in the 16th century in the Bohemian Hills of Czechoslovakia. During the Victorian and Art Deco eras, this type of garnet reached a height of popularity. There are no known mines in existence today, which has made the remaining stones highly coveted.
