Notable Features:
This pendant was handmade during the Art Deco era. Composed of 14k yellow gold, the pendant features a beautiful South Sea pearl and a sparkly diamond. The inclusion of such valuable stones in this piece is an excellent example of the styles of
jewelry popular during the Art Deco era, which saw wealthy socialites and aristocrats donning bold, eye-catching jewelry to wear to Gatsby-style parties and formal events. Jewelry worn during this time period was created to make a statement and draw attention to the wearer, and this pendant is no exception.
The South Sea pearl, as the name suggests, would have been hand-harvested off the coast of China before being imported to be made into jewelry. White in hue, the pearl displays a stunning luster as light hits the round stone from different angles. To keep the stone secure, it rests in a yellow gold bezel setting, the vibrancy of the gold a lovely contrast to the cool white of the pearl.
Sitting above the pearl is an old European cut diamond which is colorless and translucent, reflecting light beautifully as light reflects off the stone's facets from different angles and intensities. To keep the stone secure, it rests in a yellow gold setting topped with white gold that complements the colorless stone.
The stones adorn a yellow gold pendant featuring two curved, ribbon like motifs. Completing the pendant is a jump ring bale which allows it to be paired with a variety of chains and necklaces.
A classic example of Gatsby-style jewelry from the Art Deco era, this necklace would make a valuable addition to any antique jewelry collection.
Don't miss your chance to preserve this piece of cultural history.

The History
The Art Deco era is famous for being the "Gatsby" or "Roaring Twenties" era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period. Jewelry from this period was most often crafted between 1920 and 1940. Art Deco jewelry sometimes featured white gold or platinum, geometric designs, European cut diamonds, filigree, and calibre cut stones that are specifically cut to fit the design of the piece. During the Art Deco period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand.
South Sea saltwater pearls during the Art Deco era would have just started being imported from China into the western world. South Sea saltwater pearls have long been considered some of the finest pearls in the world and were usually reserved for the best pieces of jewelry. South Sea saltwater pearls are large and luminous and can come in overtones of pink, green, and blue.
The successor to the Old Mine and Rose cut diamonds of the preceding centuries, the Old European Cut refers to diamonds cut during the late 19th century and early 20th century in European cutting houses. The 1870s saw the rise of mechanical stone cutting devices, which gave jewelers more control when cutting diamonds, resulting in rounder, symmetrical diamonds that could be cut more quickly than in the past. Old European diamonds are notable for their octagonal table facets, high crowns, and consistent symmetry. Occasionally, Old European Cut may also refer to any round brilliant diamond that came before the creation of the Standard Round Brilliant cut, regardless of lack of symmetry. Antique Old European cut diamonds are a rare find in the 21st century, as most stones were re-cut into more modern shapes, making these stones highly sought after by collectors and incredibly valuable.
